Nail Trim

Maintaining a dog's nail health is critical for their overall well-being, as overgrown nails can significantly impact their posture, behavior, and physical health. Long nails alter a dog's natural gait by forcing them to distribute their weight unevenly, leading to stress on their joints, tendons, and muscles. This unnatural posture can result in long-term orthopedic problems, such as arthritis or misalignment of the spine and limbs.

Behaviorally, dogs with overgrown nails may avoid walking on hard

surfaces due to discomfort or pain, leading to reduced physical

activity. This inactivity can contribute to weight gain, muscle atrophy,

and decreased overall fitness. Additionally, the constant pressure on

their nail beds and toes can cause chronic pain, leading to irritability,

anxiety, or reluctance to engage in play and social activities.

Overgrown nails are also more prone to splitting, breaking, or curling into the paw pads, causing open wounds that may become infected. These infections can escalate, requiring medical intervention and potentially affecting the dog's overall health.

Regular nail trimming not only prevents these issues but also supports a dog’s natural movement, promotes better posture, and helps maintain a healthy, active lifestyle. Keeping nails at an appropriate length ensures comfort, reduces the risk of injury, and supports long-term joint health, making it an essential aspect of responsible pet care.

We understand that nail trims can be challenging for some dogs,                                             especially those who are fussy, anxious, or reactive. That’s why we                                         use a variety of techniques to work with even the most reluctant                                               pups. Whether your dog moves around, cries, complains, or                                                     resists, we approach the situation with patience and

understanding. However, for the safety of all involved, we may need                                         to turn away overly aggressive dogs.

To help especially anxious dogs, we offer our unique "Play and Trim" service. This approach incorporates playtime in our enrichment room before and after the nail trim, creating a positive and enjoyable experience for your dog. By pairing nail trims with play and enrichment, we aim to change your dog’s emotional response, replacing fear or stress with positive associations. Over time, this process helps reduce anxiety and fosters a more relaxed mindset about nail care.

Our goal is to make nail trims less stressful for your dog while

supporting their overall well-being. Reach out to us today and

discover how we can help transform your dog’s experience and

attitude toward nail care!
